And if a rift comes about between a man and a woman in a bond (marriage) then one arbitrator each from
the man’s side and the woman’s side shall be appointed to bring about a reconciliation between the man and
the woman so that peace and consonance (harmony) may reign amongst them; if however no reconciliation
comes about and the rift continues then it leads to destruction (breakdown) of the bond (marriage) so that this
shall be dissolved one year after the desire for reconciliation, and one letter of separation each shall be given
to the man and to the woman. |

Und entsteht zwischen Mann und Weib im Bündnis (Ehe) ein Zerwürfnis, dann bestellt einen
Schiedsrichter je aus der Sippe des Mannes und des Weibes, auf dass eine Aussöhnung erwogen
werde, die zwischen Mann und Weib bewerkstelligt werde, auf dass Frieden und Eintracht
(Harmonie) unter ihnen herrsche; kommt aber keine Aussöhnung zustande und geht das Zerwürfnis weiter, dann führt es zur Verderbnis (Zerrüttung) des Bündnisses (Ehe), also dieses nach
einem Jahr nach dem Begehr der Aussöhnung aufgelöst werden und dem Mann und dem Weib
je ein Scheidebrief gegeben sein soll. |
