Alms and good gifts for the poor and needy are all-timely for those who are defined as (verifiably) living in
poverty and need, and those who are incapable of earning their bread themselves; alms and good gifts are
also for the old who are infirm and can no longer do anything of importance (work); the unknowing ones
amongst you believe that those defined as poor and needy as well as the old and infirm are free from need if
they refrain from demanding (begging); you may recognise the truly honest poor and needy and the aged and
infirm by their appearance (conduct), because they do not ask importunately and they direct their eyes to the
ground in humiliation (shamefacedness). |

Almosen und gute Gaben für die Armen und Bedürftigen seien allzeitlich für jene, denen das
Armsein und die Bedürftigkeit festgelegt (nachweisbar) und die unfähig sind, ihr Brot selbst zu
erarbeiten; Almosen und gute Gaben seien auch für die Alten, die gebrechlich sind und die
keine Bedeutung (Arbeit) mehr verrichten können; die Unwissenden unter euch halten die festgelegten Armen und Bedürftigen sowie die Alten und Gebrechlichen für frei von der Not, wenn
sich diese vom Geheisch (Betteln) enthalten; ihr mögt die wahrlich ehrsamen Armen und Bedürftigen und die Alten und Gebrechlichen an ihrer Erscheinung (Benehmen) erkennen, denn
sie bitten nicht zudringlich und richten ihren Blick zu Boden in Beschämung (Schamhaftigkeit). |
