If you give alms publicly and do good deeds, this is certainly good and meritorious, but if you do it in secret
and thereby help the poor and needy, then that is better and more honourable for you, because what you do
secretly in this wise shows your modesty and kindheartedness which you do not want to display before the
people in order to shine before them and be praised by them. |

Gebt ihr öffentlich Almosen und tut ihr Gutes, dann ist das gewiss gut und verdienstvoll, doch
tut ihr es im geheimen und helft so den Armen und Bedürftigen, dann ist das besser und ehrenhafter für euch, denn was ihr dieser Weise heimlich tut, zeugt von eurer Bescheidenheit und Güte,
