And if a bond of marriage is broken and a letter of separation is issued then the woman shall abstain from
sensual (sexual) relations with another man for ten months waiting for the monthly menstruation so that no
concealed pregnancy or offspring may become a burden and an obligation on another man; and if a man and
woman separate from one another and nevertheless live under the same roof, and the woman approaches the
end of her waiting period of ten months of monthly menstruation then she may remain in a decorous wise
under the same roof in accordance with her volition and that of the separated man, or in a decorous wise she
shall leave the place and go her own way; and this depends on whose property the house is and how the separated man or woman have decided between themselves on where to stay; but neither woman nor man may
remain in the house contrary to right, so that they do not commit any brutality against one another; and if
they behave in correctness then truly neither the man nor woman need to carry any burden and guilt; therefore
do not mock these recommendations and think of your honour and dignity at all times which you can carry or
may lose; consider the recommendations in wisdom and admonish yourselves always to comply with them. |

Und wird ein Bündnis der Ehe zerbrochen und ein Scheidebrief ausgefertigt, dann gelten für das
Weib gegenüber einem anderen Mann eine sinnliche (geschlechtliche) Enthaltsamkeit für zehn
Monate, während denen es die monatliche Reinigung abwarten soll, auf dass nicht eine verborgene Schwängerung und Nachkommenschaft zur Last und Pflicht eines anderen Mannes falle;
und wenn sich Mann und Weib voneinander scheiden und trotzdem noch unter dem gleichen
Dach wohnen, und das Weib nähert sich dem Ende ihrer Wartefrist von zehn Monaten der
monatlichen Reinigung, dann bleibe es nach ihrem und des geschiedenen Mannes Willen in geziemender Art unter dem gleichen Dach, oder in geziemender Art verlasse es den Ort und gehe
seiner Wege; und das geschehe je nachdem, zu wessen Eigentum das Haus gehört und wie über
den Verbleib des geschiedenen Mannes oder Weibes untereinander entschieden ist; doch es
bleibe weder Weib noch Mann widerrechtlich im Haus zurück, auf dass sie sich nicht aneinander
vergehen; und wird so getan, wahrlich, haben weder Mann noch Weib Last und Schuld zu tragen;
also treibt nicht Spott mit diesen Geboten, und gedenkt allzeit eurer Ehre und Würde, die ihr
tragen könnt oder zu verlieren habt; bedenkt der Gebote in Weisheit und ermahnt euch stets,
sie einzuhalten. |
