Whether you may be rich or poor, truly you all have the same rights and duties and obligation (responsibility)
in all things whatever you do; therefore do not pursue base desires (vices/wantonness/pathological cravings/
urges), so that you will always be capable, at any time and in all things, of acting according to equitableness
(seemly/commensurate/modest/fair); and if you keep secret the truth in any things, if you falsify it or eschew
it, then consider that it will push through to the light of day in good time and will accuse you as liars and slanderers (calumniators) or as those withdrawing from (eschewing) the truth. |

Ob ihr Reiche seid oder Arme, wahrlich, ihr habt alle die gleichen Rechte und Pflichten und die
Schuldigkeit (Verantwortung) in allen Dingen, die ihr immer tut; darum folgt nicht niederen
Begierden (Lastern/Lüsternheiten/Süchten/Trieben), auf dass ihr imstande sein mögt, jederzeit
und in allen Dingen nach Billigkeit (geziemend/angemessen/massvoll/gerecht) zu handeln; und
wenn ihr die Wahrheit in irgendwelchen Dingen verhehlt (verheimlicht), sie verfälscht oder ihr
ausweicht, dann bedenkt, dass sie zu ihrer Zeit ans Licht des Tages drängt und euch als Lügner
und Verlästerer (Verleumder) oder als sich der Wahrheit Entziehende (Ausweichende) anklagt. |
