249) And if you enter into a bond between man and woman, then both shall have the capabilities for doing so, and each party shall have sufficient goods and chattels and wealth to bring into the bond as male and female dowry as is given in accordance with possibility; however, no purchase price shall be paid for a woman or for a man, because neither the one nor the other is a commodity.
249) Und geht ihr ein Bündnis ein zwischen Mann und Weib, dann sollen beide der Fähigkeiten dazu tragend sein, und jeder Teil soll genug an Hab und Gut und Reichtum als männliches und weibliches Heiratsgut in das Bündnis einbringen, wie es nach der Möglichkeit gegeben ist; nicht jedoch soll ein Kaufpreis geleistet werden für ein Weib oder für einen Mann, denn weder das eine noch das andere ist ein Handelsgut.
